This Privacy Policy explains how SkyShield Ltd (trading as BETACADEMY, “we”, “us” or “our”) collects, uses, shares and protects personal data when you visit betacademy.io or use our learning platform, apps, and related services (together, the “Service”). We act as the data controller of the personal data described below. We are committed to processing your data in accordance with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the UK GDPR, and other applicable data-protection laws.

2. The personal data we collect

2.1 Data you give us

• Account data: name or display name, email address, password (stored in hashed form), and account preferences when you register.
• Profile & learning data: course progress, lesson completions, streaks, league placement, assessment results, “Daily Hand” answers, practice-arena performance, earned “chips”, and certificates issued to you.
• Purchase data: records of subscriptions (Plus, Founder), ebook purchases, order history, and refund requests. Full card numbers are handled by our payment processors and are not stored by us.
• Communications: messages you send to support, survey responses, and marketing preferences.
• Age confirmation: confirmation that you are 18 or older (or the higher age required in your jurisdiction).

2.2 Data we collect automatically

• Device & usage data: IP address, browser type, device identifiers, operating system, pages viewed, features used, and timestamps.
• Cookies & similar technologies: set as described in our Cookie Policy.

2.3 Data from third parties

• Payment processors (e.g. Stripe, PayPal) confirm transaction status and provide limited card metadata (such as card brand and last four digits).
• Sign-in providers (if you enable Google/Apple sign-in) may share your name and email with us.

We rely on the following legal bases under the GDPR:

Where we rely on consent (for example, for non-essential cookies or marketing), you may withdraw it at any time without affecting the lawfulness of processing before withdrawal.

4. Who we share your data with

We do not sell your personal data. We share it only with:

• Payment processors — Stripe and PayPal (and card networks such as Visa and Mastercard, and Apple Pay) to take payment and prevent fraud.
• Infrastructure & IT providers — hosting, storage, email delivery, error monitoring and analytics providers acting as our processors.
• Professional advisers — accountants, auditors and lawyers where necessary.
• Authorities — regulators, courts or law-enforcement where we are legally required to do so.
• Successors — an acquirer in connection with a merger, acquisition or sale of assets.

5. International data transfers

Some of our providers are located outside the UK/EEA. Where we transfer personal data internationally, we rely on an adequacy decision or appropriate safeguards such as the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses (and the UK International Data Transfer Addendum), together with supplementary measures where needed. You can request a copy of the relevant safeguards using the contact details above.

6. How long we keep your data

• Account and learning data: for as long as your account is active, and then deleted or anonymised within a reasonable period after you close it.
• Purchase, tax and accounting records: typically retained for six years to meet legal obligations.
• Support communications: usually up to 24 months after resolution.
• Marketing preferences: until you unsubscribe or object.

7. Your rights

Subject to applicable law, you have the right to:

• access a copy of your personal data;
• rectify inaccurate or incomplete data;
• erase your data (“right to be forgotten”);
• restrict or object to certain processing, including direct marketing;
• data portability — receive your data in a portable format (you can export your data from within your account);
• withdraw consent at any time; and
• lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority.

If you are in the UK you may complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ico.org.uk); if you are in the EEA you may contact your local data-protection authority.

8. Security

We use technical and organisational measures to protect your data, including encryption in transit, hashed passwords, access controls and monitoring. No system is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we work to protect your data and will notify you and the relevant authority of a personal-data breach where the law requires.

9. Children and age restriction

The Service is intended only for adults aged 18 or over (or 21+ where required by local law). It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18. If we learn that we have collected such data, we will delete it. If you believe a minor has provided us with data, please contact us.

10. Marketing

We will only send you marketing emails where you have opted in or where otherwise permitted by law. Every marketing email contains an unsubscribe link, and you can update your preferences in your account at any time. Transactional and service messages (for example, receipts and security notices) are not marketing and cannot be opted out of while you hold an account.

11. Automated decision-making

We do not make decisions producing legal or similarly significant effects about you based solely on automated processing. Personalisation of your learning experience (such as recommended lessons or league placement) does not have such effects.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version on this page and, where changes are material, notify you by email or in-product. The “Effective date” above shows when it was last revised.
